How to listen to Nigerian radio on a Mac

Open the station's own website in your browser: Nigeria Info and Wazobia FM both show a Listen Live button on their homepages. To keep several stations in one place, a Mac radio app can search the open radio-browser directory, which held 84 working Nigerian station entries on 27 October 2026, including Cool FM and Wazobia FM in Lagos, Splash FM in Ibadan and Nagari Radio in Hausa.

Start with the station’s website

Most Nigerian stations stream from their own site. On 27 October 2026, the homepages of Nigeria Info and Wazobia FM both carried a Listen Live button, and Cool FM was online as well. These are ordinary web pages, so nothing needs installing.

Apple Music, if you have a stream address

Apple documents a built-in route: in Music on Mac, choose File, then Open Stream URL, and enter the full address including http:// or https:// (Apple Music guide, opened 27 October 2026). That needs the stream address itself, not the homepage, and Music does not give you a searchable list of Nigerian stations.

How many Nigerian stations work

The open radio-browser directory is what many radio apps use to find stations. I queried its public API on 27 October 2026 with broken streams hidden:

Stations that were working on 27 October 2026

Each of these was found again by name and had a passing stream check between 22 and 27 October 2026:

A passing check means the stream answered on that day. It is not a promise that it will keep working.

When an app helps

Pick an app when you want to jump between, say, a Lagos news station and a gospel station without opening a website each time. For a comparison of Mac options, see the Mac internet-radio app comparison and the general guide to internet radio on a Mac.

PoRaBar is one of those options. It is a Mac menu-bar player, and its radio search uses the radio-browser directory behind these numbers, so you can find a station by name. Its interface is English only. After the 60-day trial, a one-time $2.99 purchase covers Mac and iPhone, and radio keeps playing for 5 minutes per session until you buy it or earn it.

The small size of the Nigerian list also means your contribution counts. Of the 84 entries, 27 have no logo in radio-browser and 40 have no tags. Adding a logo or fixing the tags of a station you listen to helps every listener, and approved contributions for 3 stations get you the app without paying.

If you are looking for Indian stations instead, there is a guide to Indian radio on a Mac.

Questions about Nigerian radio on a Mac

Can I listen to Nigerian radio on a Mac without an app?

Yes. Nigeria Info and Wazobia FM each show a Listen Live button on their homepages, checked on 27 October 2026, on an ordinary web page. An app only helps when you want stations from several broadcasters in one searchable list.

Why can I not find Radio Nigeria, Raypower or Channels?

On 27 October 2026 the radio-browser directory had no working entry named Raypower, Hot FM, Channels or Freedom, and none named Radio Nigeria. The entry Bond 92.9 FM has radionigerialagos.gov.ng as its homepage, so it is probably the Radio Nigeria Lagos station. If a station is missing from a directory, use its website instead.

Which Nigerian languages are covered?

Among the 84 entries, 35 are tagged English, 8 Yoruba, 7 Pidgin (spelled several ways), 5 Hausa and 1 Igbo. 44 entries have no language tag, so the real mix is wider than these numbers suggest.

Is the PoRaBar app available in Yoruba, Hausa or Igbo?

No. The app interface is English only. Stations play in their own language, so Yoruba, Hausa and Pidgin broadcasts are not affected.

What does PoRaBar cost?

The download is free to try for 60 days. After that, a one-time $2.99 purchase covers Mac and iPhone. You can also get it free by adding a logo or tags for 3 stations in the app, which are approved by hand.

Try it with a station you already know

PoRaBar is a download with a 60-day free trial, then a one-time $2.99 purchase for Mac and iPhone. If a station's website already plays what you want, you do not need it.
